Cheshire primary pupils celebrate achieving CAFOD’s LiveSimply Award
Pupils and staff from a Cheshire primary school have been celebrating after they achieved the LiveSimply award, confirming that they are living simply, sustainably and in solidarity with communities around the world experiencing poverty.
Angela Corcoran, CAFOD Schools Visitor, presented the award to the school Mission Council of St Lewis Catholic Primary School, Coft, Warrington. Previous members of the school’s Mission Council were also in attendance for the ceremony.
The award, championed by the international aid charity CAFOD, was presented to the school after they successfully planned and implemented faith inspired actions that highlighted the importance of caring for people and the planet. Their actions have had a positive impact throughout the school, in their local community, and globally too, as they reached out to make a difference.
Ten Mission Councillors from Year 2 to 6 worked with the previous headteacher, Mrs Kathryn Berry, and Mission Council Leader Ms Anna Ricketts to inspire the whole school in reflecting the guidelines to Live Simply, Live Sustainably and Live in Solidarity. Projects included creating a prayer garden in the school grounds, fund-raising and a commitment to recycling across the school.
Ayrton, a Year 5 pupil commented on why they took part in the LiveSimply award.
“I felt a lot of pride getting this award and in everything we did,” said Ayrton.
“I definitely think other schools should take part, it’s a major point in helping this world.”
Anna Ricketts said “I am so proud of the dedication these children have demonstrated over the two years. Their enthusiasm has really inspired all the teachers and staff with their recycling and fund-raising activities to make this a fantastic place to learn and play.”
CAFOD’s LiveSimply Coordinator for Schools, Siobhan Farnell, added his congratulations.
“Their actions are wonderful examples of caring for others and our common home and we wish them well as they continue to live simply, sustainably and in solidarity with communities around the world experiencing poverty,” said Siobhan.
