Legacy of John Bradburne still providing vital help for those suffering from leprosy

The John Bradburne Memorial Society (JBMS) is calling on individuals and communities to support its mission on World Leprosy Day, which will be observed on January 26th, 2025. This annual day of awareness shines a spotlight on the ongoing challenges faced by those affected by leprosy, a neglected tropical disease that continues to impact thousands globally.

The Society is named in honour of ‘Servant of God’, John Bradburne, who was warden for 10 years of the Mutemwa Leprosy Care Centre in Zimbabwe. John’s unwavering compassion for those affected by leprosy left a profound legacy, inspiring the formation of JBMS to continue his life’s work. The Society provides crucial support to leprosy patients, raises awareness about the disease, and helps fund the ongoing operations of Mutemwa.

World Leprosy Day offers an important opportunity to draw attention to the stigma and discrimination that many leprosy patients still face. It is also a day to celebrate the courage and resilience of those living with the disease and to honour the memory of  John Bradburne, who dedicated his life to caring for them.

Donating: Contributions to JBMS will go directly towards supporting the Mutemwa Leprosy Care Centre, where patients receive much needed medical care, food, and shelter. Every donation, no matter the size, makes a significant difference in the lives of those affected by leprosy.

Raising Awareness: JBMS encourages supporters to spread the word about World Leprosy Day and the work of the Society.

Prayers: We ask for prayers for the people of Mutemwa and others globally affected by leprosy and for prayers for John Bradburne’s Cause for Sainthood.

  • A Message from the JBMS Chairperson

“In the spirit of John Bradburne’s selfless devotion to those suffering from leprosy, we ask everyone to come together on World Leprosy Day to support this vital cause,” said Tim Brigstocke, Chairman of the John Bradburne Memorial Society.

“Your support can help us continue to help those affected by leprosy living at Mutemwa. Thank you.”
