New Principal appointed at Guernsey Catholic college

A leading Catholic school in Guernsey has appointed a new head teacher.

Alexa Yeoman was previously the acting vice-principal of Blanchelande College, St Andrew and has been named principal.

Mrs Yeoman was a pupil at the private school and has worked there for the past 16 years.

She said the school’s ethos – “part of a family, one of a kind” – reflected individual learning and collaboration.

“I am proud to be leading the school into its next phase of development, whilst also preserving its unique features and remaining true to its values,” she said.

The Catholic school recently opened a new design and technology centre and launched a Leiths professional cookery programme.

Mrs Yeoman said more students were staying on at Blanchelande for sixth form, and joining from other schools, so the school was planning to develop further quiet study areas and common room space.

“I feel strongly about the unique independent educational offering which Blanchelande provides for the island’s children,” she said.

She said she was looking forward to engaging further with the current intake of 450 students, parents and teaching colleagues.

‘I have been a teacher and am still a parent here,” she told The Guernsey Press newspaper.

“I’ve taught in the infants, juniors and senior departments. I’ve been on the senior leadership team for six years, and I’ve been the acting vice-principal, so I know the school really well,’ she said.

‘We’ve had great years with 100% A-level results since it opened and our numbers are increasing, offer letters are still out but there’s a lot of interest for September which is great.”
