Inspiring Staffordshire education leader is awarded honorary degree by university
Staffordshire Education leader Margaret Yates is to receive an honorary degree from Staffordshire University for her ‘inspiring’ leadership and service to education.
Margaret is currently Senior Executive Leader of All Saints Catholic Collegiate Multi-Academy Trust, and was previously executive head of St Gregory’s Catholic Academy in Longton and St Augustine’s Catholic Academy in Meir.
Eight prominent figures in their fields – including technology, education, music and acting – will be awarded honorary degrees by the university. The awards – the University’s highest honour – will be presented during the University’s summer awards ceremonies which are taking place at the Kings Hall in Stoke and will celebrate the achievements of thousands of students.
Margaret, who studied education at Staffordshire University as a mature student, said of her award: “It’s totally unexpected but I always think the highest accolade anyone could ever have is your peers and colleagues giving you an award. You know that it’s from people who really value your contribution.
“I’m very, very lucky. I just feel I’ve got the best job in the world.”
Staffordshire University Vice-Chancellor Professor Martin Jones said the new honorary graduates are ‘catalysts for change’ in their sectors.
“We very much look forward to welcoming this year’s honorary graduates who we believe will be an inspiration to our graduating Class of 2023,” he told the Stoke Sentinel newspaper.
“As a University we aim to be a Catalyst for Change and we are confident that our new honorary graduates, as well as reflecting the breadth of our academic portfolio, are all catalysts for change in their sectors and industries.”
All Saints Catholic Collegiate is a multi-academy company that runs the schools and will focus on other strategic education roles across Stoke on Trent and beyond.
