Tim invested into Pontifical Equestrian Order of Saint Sylvester at APB conference Mass
The Association of Provincial Bursars (APB) has held it’s annual conference and AGM and changed venue for the first time since 1995 to The Hayes Conference Centre, Swanwick, Derbyshire.
“Once again, the Executive Committee put together a varied and interesting conference programme with faces known and new,” said General Secretary Mrs Eileen Head.
“This year was the new shorter conference format, and we tried to fit in as much content as possible whilst still allowing for networking and social time, a vital component of the conference.”
The Keynote address was Professor Tim Jackson, in conversation with Fr David Goodill OP and Sr Mary Fitzpatrick FCJ on Imagining a post-growth economy.
That was followed by the opening Mass which included the Rite of Investiture of Mr Tim Rutherford of Stone King LLP, as a Knight of the Pontifical Equestrian Order of Saint Sylvester, Pope and Martyr, and was celebrated by The Rt Revd Bishop Ralph Heskett CSsR, Bishop of Hallum.
“Tim has been involved with APB for a long time and his continued support for the members has been unwavering and of great value to the members,” said Eileen.
“The Executive Committee, as a means to thank him for his great service and commitment to APB, asked that Tim be recommended to the Cardinal Secretary of State in Rome for admission to this Order and were really delighted when they received notification from the Apostolic Nuciature that this award has been granted and he has been admitted.”
Pontifical Equestrian Order of Saint Sylvester is one of five orders of knighthood awarded directly by the Pope as Supreme Pontiff and head of the Catholic Church and as the Head of State of Vatican City. It is intended to honour lay people who are actively involved in the life of the church, particularly as it is exemplified in the exercise of their professional duties.
The Investiture was followed by a drinks reception.
APB was sponsored this year by Epworth Investment Management and they also presented on The challenges of faith confident investing.
“Our four concurrent sessions were on Banking (always a hot topic!) for which the APB had secured RBS, then Property Management with Richard Moir of Gerald Eve, Employment Law and HR Update with Womble Bond Dickinson and Decarbonising our buildings with Dr Chris Walsh,” said Eileen.
Mr Linbert Spencer facilitated a session entitled Lay and Religious Bursars working together in harmony.
On the Wednesday, the conference heard from Tim Rutherford and Amanda Francis on Policies and Risk Assessmentsand there was an Open Forum Q & A.
“All in all, we think it was a very enjoyable and successful conference,” said Eileen.
The APB Executive Committee will arrange for the award to be formally presented to Tim in due course.
