London Catholic school hosts student-led Q&A with Rt Hon. Lord Randall of Uxbridge
The Rt Hon. Lord Randall of Uxbridge, a current member of the House of Lords, visited The Douay Martyrs Catholic School, in Ickenham in the London Borough of Hillingdon last Friday to meet with staff and a group of students from different year groups.
Lord Randall of Uxbridge commented, “I really enjoyed my visit to the Douay Martyrs Catholic School. Some great questions from the students” The visit lasted for an hour and a half, featuring an interactive Q&A session where Lord Randall graciously answered questions from students regarding the challenges they face. The interactive session provided an opportunity for students to express their views on a wide range of issues affecting their lives, education, and communities.
Reflecting on the visit, Fiona McCloskey, the Headteacher of Douay Martyrs expressed gratitude for the visit of The Rt Hon. Lord Randall of Uxbridge.
“We are honoured to have Lord Randall at our school,” said Fiona.
“His genuine interest in our students’ experiences and his commitment to addressing their concerns exemplify the spirit of public service. We look forward to working closely with the diocese and local authorities to ensure the well-being and success of our students.”
Two students, Laura, Year 10, and George, Year 7, shared their thoughts on the experience. Laura said, “Having the opportunity to speak directly with Lord Randall was incredibly empowering. It made me feel like my voice truly matters.”
George added, “It was a nice opportunity to meet with Lord Randall and ask him about various topics. Thank you to everyone at the school for facilitating such an important visit.” This important visit is a testament to Douay Martyrs Catholic School’s position as one of the top secondary schools in the borough.
Additionally, Lord Randall’s presence served as a reminder of the importance of fostering connections between policymakers and the new generation to empower youth voices in shaping the future.
